GARLCA Auxiliary

Our Beginnings...

On September 10, 1924, the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association was organized at St Francis Hotel in St Paul Minnesota by rural carrier spouses who wanted to lend their support to the Association. The objectives of the Auxiliary were to unite fraternally its members, to create a greater interest in the rural mail service and Association work, and to seek beneficial legislation. In 1975 the word "Ladies" was dropped from the organization’s title and now reflects the invitation to all spouses to get involved in the activities of the Auxiliary. In 1935, the Auxiliary was instrumental in forming a Junior Organization, thereby  bringing about a Family Organization, unique to the rural postal craft.

Since its inception, the Auxiliary has worked closely with the NRLCA in all its endeavors, particularly in the area of widows annuities. Philanthropic projects have also become a principal part of the Auxiliary program. The Auxiliary has provided humanitarian assistance in many areas and forms. Research funding for cancer and alzheimer and support of the Folds of Honor program and Give Kids the World Village located in middle Florida. are just a few of the recent projects. The current humanitarian project is The Hero Company which funds service and companion animals for veterans suffering from PTSD at ZERO cost to them.
